How to Auto Mute and Turn off video on Google Meet
Option 1: Google Meet Auto Disable Mic/Cam To auto-mute and turn off the video on Google Meet, open the Chrome extension store and search for “Google Meet Auto Disable Mic/Cam”. Alternatively, you can just click on this link to open the extension.
Now click on the “Add to Chrome” button and click on “Add extension” in the pop-up to install the extension on your browser.
By default, this will only disable the cam, you can also disable the mic by opening the Google Meet website and starting a meeting. Now on the joining page, you can check out two new options, Auto Disable Microphone, and Auto Disable Camera. Enable the checkmark beside “Auto Disable Microphone”.
That’s it, you can reload the page to check out how the feature works. Option 2: Completely Disabling Join Screen Before you join any meeting on Google Meet, you might have noticed a ‘Join Screen’ which checks for your Mic and Cam before joining. But if we are already disabling Mic and Camera by default, there is no point in keeping the ‘Join Screen’ as well. You can do that by installing an extension called Google Meet Enhanced Suite. This extension is a one-stop destination for many features on the Google Meet like the push to talk, dark mode, timer, PIP mode, muting other participants for you, etc along with auto disabling mic and cam and also disabling the join screen.
To do that, open the chrome extension store and search for “Google Meet Enhancement Suite”. Alternatively, you can just click on this link to open the extension page.
Now click on the “Add to Chrome” button to install the extension.
Once installed, click on the extension icon from the top right corner of the browser.
Here you can check out all the features Enhancement Suite can offer for you. While there are many pro features available for a monthly subscription. You can get the disabling features for free. To turn off the mic and cam automatically, enable the checkmark beside “Auto Mute” and “Auto Video off”.
To disable the join screen completely, enable the checkmark beside “Auto Join”.
That’s it, now you can check yourself by starting a meet. This extension will not block the join screen completely from even showing, it just clicks on the Join now button automatically every time.
Wrapping up
There are few other extensions that do the same thing, but I found these two extensions more appealing as the “Auto Disable Mic/Cam” extension is minimal and straight to the point, and “Meet Enhancement Suite” is for you if you want to really improve the extend the features of Google Meet. Anyhow, use only one extension to disable, as there are chances for malfunctioning if you are using multiple extensions for the same purpose.
